NEW CONFERENCE
I. Conference in Trento,
Italy
We will host the next conference
in Trento, July 24-July 27, 2010.
Our organization remains
the same: Catholic Theological Ethics in the World Church.
The Conference Title is:
In the Currents of History: From Trento to the Future.
A. Why Trent?
We believe that certain
issues made Trent very attractive. First, we do not yet have the
infrastructure to move "south." We felt constrained to
stay in Europe and esp. in Italy, for reasons of hospitality and
visas. Perhaps, if we meet after Trent, say again after a 4 year
interval, Brazil might be a wonderful location, but for now, our
skills and resources are limited.
Second, certain factors
helped make Padova very successful. The factors of success there
seem evident in Trento, above all a local ethicist capable of being
the on-site coordinator. Renzo Pegoraro was the brilliant organizer
in Padova; Antonio Autiero has all the capabilities to assume the
same role for Trento. Moreover, Zip viaggi secured us our tickets
and hotel accommodations in Padova and can work with us in Trento.
Third, if Padova offered
us a first meeting for listening at the academy, Trento offers us
a historical and systematic context for extended reflection. We
will design a conference in which we enter into the "currents
of history."
Fourth, the Instituto
Trentino di Cultura (ITC) offers us a unique contact
in which a uniquely, civilly supported engagement with religion
invites us to consider ourselves not only in history but with innovation.
Fifth, the physical intimacy
and beauty of Trento offers us a very accommodating place to meet.
B. Regarding the Conference
itself, we agreed on the following:
1. We will keep registrations
(starting in 2009) under 500.
2. That we would keep the
same timeline: a Saturday evening through Tuesday night.
C. The Planning Committee
is meeting in Trento July 26-28, 2007
