Our Inspiration

St.Kuriakose Elias Chavara

St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805-1871) is the guiding light of Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram. Renowned as a spiritual leader and social reformer, St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara is a native of Kerala in India. The Catholic Church raised him to the eminence of a saint on November 23, 2014 on account of his heroic spiritual life and innovative humanitarian services to empower the downtrodden.

Deeply rooted in the eastern spiritual tradition of Christianity, St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara submitted himself to Christ by serving the destitute among destitute. He was instrumental in popularizing public education across Kerala. He established the concept of “a School for every Church” throughout Kerala in an effort to provide education to all individuals, irrespective of cast, creed and community. This was indeed, a revolutionary step at that time because the system of education was until then, segmented by cast, creed and community.
